The MAHSE STP Open Day was held on 7th January 2016 and 165 prospective trainees attended to find out more about the Scientist Training Programme (STP) courses available in Manchester. The event started with a presentation by the MAHSE director Professor Phil Padfield about what the role of a healthcare scientist is, what the STP involves and which courses are offered in Manchester. Dr Martin Stout then discussed the STP application process run by the National School of Healthcare Science (NSHCS). Samantha Shannon from the North West Healthcare Science Trainee Network Board, delivered a talk entitled ‘What would I have liked to know before I applied for an STP programme?’ to give prospective students insight from a third year trainee perspective.
