As you may know the Five Year Forward View has set out a clear direction of travel for the NHS. Healthcare scientists have a vital role to play in redesigning care and service provision with the diagnostic, therapeutic and scientific services provided and it is vital to promote the services that are provided out in Primary Care and the community to the wider NHS to ensure that healthcare scientists are at the centre of any new models of care that emerge.

Helen Liggett, North West Healthcare Science Workforce Lead, is currently working with the national CSO team to gather information from all healthcare science services to see what healthcare scientists are currently involved in and would be very interested to hear about extended services in the community or where healthcare scientists are supporting others to provide services in GP Practices / Ambulance service / self -testing / POCT / (or indeed any other examples).

Helen would also like to set up a network of service transformation champions nationally that can help spread best practice and would like to know if you would like to be involved in this exciting programme of work.

Please send Helen a simple outline of what you are doing and she will be back in touch to delve deeper and potentially develop case studies to promote your department.

PLEASE SEND AS MANY EXAMPLES AS YOU CAN TO helen.liggett@srft.nhs.uk

What are healthcare scientists doing out in primary care / community? Examples needed!
