New Trainees

The process for new trainees is different depending on whether you are applying for the Practitioner Training Programme (PTP) or the Scientist Training Programme (STP). This is because one process is direct with the University (PTP) and the other is part of a National competition organised by the National School of Healthcare Science. Please select the relevant link below for further information:

Practitioner Training Programme (PTP)

New trainees on the PTP programme will have applied through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS). If you have a query about your application please contact the relevant team below:

Scientist Training Programme (STP)

All new trainees will receive confirmation from the National School of Healthcare Science that they have been awarded a place on the Scientist Training Programme. In order to begin the programme, you will need to be an employee at your workplace-based hospital (where you complete the workbased programme) as well as being a registered student of the University where you will complete your academic programme (MSc Clinical Science). If you are completing your academic programme in Manchester then you will receive an e-mail from MAHSE during June to give you further details about the programme. During your first year, you will spend between 5 and 7 weeks in Manchester (depending on your specialty). Please visit the For Supervisors section of our website for an indication of the main times of year you will be in Manchester. You will receive a finalised timetable from your Programme Administrator at the beginning of each academic year confirming the exact dates.
